About Me

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, vocalist Verónica Freidkes is captivating San Francisco Bay Area audiences with her versatile voice. With a repertoire that encompasses Tango, Bossa Nova, Jazz, and other Latin rhythms, Verónica invites listeners on a musical journey with each song, showcasing her refined and sincere approach.

“My ultimate goal is to share the gift and joy of live music as a creative experience with the community”

How it all started
Verónica was captivated by music from a very young age, showing an early interest in playing piano at the tender age of five when she discovered with awe her ability to play melodies by ear. That was the beginning of a musical journey that started with piano lessons for several years. She soon joined a children´s community choir and right there the magic happened: Verónica discovered harmony singing, a lifelong pleasure of hers. Those early experiences determined Verónica´s identity as a musician.

As a teenager, and in addition to singing in every music festival at her high school, Verónica started taking private singing lessons with teacher Mariana Melero. This mentor would accompany her for more than ten years, helping Verónica shape her musical inclinations. This was the time to discover gems from Jazz and Bossa Nova, spending hours listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Astrud Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Chet Baker, and many more.

Background
Having learned Hebrew throughout her upbringing, Verónica would later serve as Cantor for over a decade by offering her voice to ancient and modern sacral melodies at various communities and synagogues in the area. The congregations praised her voice because it helped them “elevate and connect to the divine”.

Verónica's interests were many so she decided to pursue Psychology upon graduating from high school. She holds a Master´s degree in Psychology specializing in psychosomatics, from Universidad de Buenos Aires. In addition to her private practice as a therapist in mental health, she continued singing as a Cantor, performing in private events, and teaching voice lessons.

Styles and genres
Buenos Aires is known for its vibrant culture, art, and music. Tango was absorbed by Verónica as a core element in her musicality, together with Argentine folklore -Zamba, Chacarara, and other Argentinan rhythms- nurturing her interpretational singing, infused also with the richness of Jazz and Bossa Nova

Why the Bay Area, CA?
Verónica decided to become a full-time musician when she moved to the Bay Area. The mysterious paths of life surprised her on a Summer trip to San Francisco where she met Rodrigo and found love, eventually becoming life partners. In 2019, she decided to move to the Bay Area and start a life together in Oakland, California.
